As another year draws to a close, I like to look back at the weddings I’ve photographed and reflect on the moments that made them special. 2025 has been a whirlwind of celebrations – from sun soaked summer days to cosy winter evenings – and I’m incredibly grateful to the couples who trusted me to tell their stories. Here are a few highlights:
Larkhill Garrison, a regal celebration
Lauren & Jack’s August wedding at Larkhill Garrison was steeped in history. Hosted in the Officer’s Mess, where King Charles recently lunched, it combined military tradition with heartfelt emotion. The blazing summer sun meant Pimms on the terrace and a spectacular sunset portrait session. The best man’s speech had everyone in stitches, and a mistimed champagne spray became one of my favourite candid shots.
The Courtyard Barns (rustic charm in Leicestershire)
Sophie & Ben’s day at The Courtyard Barns felt like a film set. Blue skies, fluffy clouds and a relaxed atmosphere set the tone. A joint speech by the couple during dinner was a standout moment, and lawn games kept guests entertained until sunset. It was the kind of wedding where everyone kicked off their shoes and danced under the stars.
Donington Park Farmhouse. A scorcher of a day!
Chloe & Connor’s July celebration at Donington Park Farmhouse was one of the hottest days I’ve ever worked. A magician wowed guests during the drinks reception, and Chloe surprised everyone with a second dress reveal before hitting the dance floor. The relaxed, rustic vibe of the farmhouse and its grounds proved perfect for a laid back summer party.
Tipi wedding at home = laid back magic
India & Enrico showed how magical a home wedding can be with their tipi reception in Nottinghamshire. Personal touches abounded: petals from their own garden for confetti, a family tradition of cutting off the groom’s tie and a lively band that kept the dance floor packed. Shooting on the longest and hottest day of the year was a challenge, but the images glow with golden light.
The West Mill – sun soaked spring
Ciara & Ged’s wedding at The West Mill gave us perfect May sunshine. Two best men delivered one of the funniest speeches I’ve heard, and the dance floor exploded as the sun set over the river. It was proof that relaxed, joy filled weddings can be just as memorable as grand affairs.
Holme Pierrepont Hall – intimate springtime
Sarah & Sam kept their June wedding small and heartfelt, inviting just 20 guests. After a Bridgford Hall registry office ceremony, we headed to Holme Pierrepont Hall, where the Medieval Lodgings created a cosy atmosphere. Rain showers didn’t dampen spirits; instead, we dashed outside between showers for portraits in the lush gardens. A surprise musical performance by the groom added a personal touch.
Personal reflections
Looking back on 2025, I’m struck by the diversity of venues and styles I’ve been privileged to document. From military bases to back garden tipi weddings, industrial mills to stately homes, each celebration had its own rhythm and personality. The thread that ties them together is the authenticity of the couples and their willingness to embrace real moments. It’s those candid glances, hearty laughs and unexpected mishaps that make wedding photography so rewarding.
