I've photographed weddings at some beautiful venues across Derbyshire, but there's something particularly nice about photographing one so close to home. And Breadsall Priory, with its historic buildings, gorgeous grounds and views across the Derbyshire countryside, is a pretty special place to get married.
Emma and Dan's wedding was a brilliant day, with gorgeous weather, plenty of laughter, lovely people and a few unexpected moments. Although, it was clear from the start exactly who had been in charge of the planning!
A Morning at Breadsall Priory
I joined Emma at Breadsall Priory, where she was getting ready with her bridesmaids ahead of the midday ceremony.
The morning was spent getting hair and makeup finished, chatting with family and friends, and making those final preparations before heading down the aisle.
It was also pretty clear that Emma had put her stamp on the day. There was even a sign announcing "Emma's Wedding, Featuring Dan", which gave everyone a good laugh. All in good spirits, of course, and a pretty good indication of the fun that was to come!
An Outdoor Wedding Ceremony at Breadsall Priory
One of the things I love about Breadsall Priory is that everything can happen in one place. There's no rushing between venues or worrying about transport, just a whole day of celebrations in some beautiful surroundings.
And with the weather being absolutely glorious, Emma and Dan couldn't have asked for a better day for their outdoor ceremony.
The ceremony took place on the patio at Breadsall Priory, surrounded by their closest family and friends, with the beautiful historic building providing the backdrop.
After exchanging their vows and making things official, everyone stayed outside to enjoy drinks and canapés in the sunshine.
With the ceremony complete, the afternoon had that lovely relaxed atmosphere that I always enjoy photographing. Guests catching up, sharing a drink and making the most of the weather while I wandered around capturing all those little moments happening naturally.
Exactly the sort of wedding photography I love!
A Few Photographs, and an Unexpected Round of Golf!
Of course, we made some time for photographs of Emma and Dan together, along with a handful of family portraits.
Breadsall Priory is a fantastic venue for wedding photography, particularly if you're happy to venture a little further into the grounds. The historic building makes a beautiful backdrop, but it's the surrounding countryside that really makes the place special.
We headed out towards the golf course, where the views from the 11th tee across the Derbyshire countryside were absolutely glorious.
And, in a moment I certainly hadn't planned for, Emma ended up borrowing a golf club from one of the golfers and having a swing herself!
Not your typical wedding portrait session, but absolutely brilliant. Plenty of laughter, some lovely photographs and exactly the sort of spontaneous moment that makes every wedding a little different.
Speeches, Shots and Evening Celebrations
After enjoying the afternoon sunshine with their guests, everyone headed inside for the wedding breakfast, followed by speeches.
Emma and Dan had also decided to put their own spin on a few wedding traditions, including swapping the usual champagne toast for shots. A pretty good way to get everyone into the party spirit!
As the evening celebrations got underway, Emma and Dan shared their first dance to *Beyond* by Leon Bridges.
From the playful touches throughout the day to the lovely moments shared with their family and friends, it was a wedding that felt very much their own.
A Brilliant Wedding Close to Home
Emma and Dan's wedding was a lovely reminder that the best weddings aren't necessarily the ones with the most elaborate plans or biggest productions. They're the ones where everyone feels comfortable, has a laugh and enjoys spending time together.
Breadsall Priory provided a beautiful Derbyshire setting, and the glorious weather meant everyone could really make the most of the outdoor spaces. But it was Emma, Dan and their guests who made the day so enjoyable.
Thank you both for having me along. It was a pleasure to capture your day, and I'll certainly remember Emma's impromptu golfing debut for a while!
Congratulations again, Emma and Dan!
