Some weddings feel polished and traditional. River and Hannah’s wedding at The West Mill felt something much better than that... personal.


Small guest list. Big personalities. Loads of energy. Absolutely zero pressure to do things the “normal” way.


With around 35 of their closest people there, the whole day had this relaxed, intimate atmosphere from the start. It never felt formal or over-produced. Instead, it felt like everybody there genuinely mattered to them, and that changes the feeling of a wedding completely. Less performance. More connection.


And honestly, it suited them perfectly.


The styling leaned into this brilliant dark-and-light theme, with subtle Star Wars influences woven throughout the day without ever turning it into a novelty wedding. It felt creative, fun, and very them. The West Mill’s industrial spaces and huge windows worked so well with it too, especially with the sunshine pouring in for most of the day.


One minute there were emotional hugs and quiet moments near the windows. The next there were lightsabers being swung around in the middle of the dancefloor.


Which, for the record, made for some unbelievably fun photos.


I always say my favourite weddings are the ones where people stop worrying about whether something is “supposed” to happen and just do whatever feels right to them instead. River and Hannah completely embraced that idea from start to finish.


Nothing about the day felt forced.


They weren’t interested in spending hours posing for photos or disappearing from their guests all afternoon. They just wanted to spend time with the people they loved, have a laugh, and properly enjoy the day. That always leads to better photographs anyway.


Some of my favourite moments from the day were the tiny in-between ones. Real moments that happened naturally because the whole atmosphere felt comfortable and relaxed.


And then the dancefloor started.


The energy in the evening was unreal. Loud rock music, people fully committing, and a dancefloor that never really slowed down. It felt more like one big celebration than a structured wedding timeline, which honestly made it even better to photograph.


River and Hannah, thank you both for trusting me with it all. Your wedding was creative, chaotic in the best way, full of personality, and completely unforgettable.


Exactly the kind of wedding I love being part of.
