Derby Wedding Photographer

Relaxed, natural wedding photography for couples who want to enjoy their day.

I’m Lewis, a wedding photographer based in Derby

Real moments, genuine emotion and no awkward posing

If you’re getting married in Derby and want photographs that feel natural, personal and true to your day, you’re in the right place.

My approach is relaxed and documentary-led. I won’t turn your wedding into an all-day photoshoot or constantly interrupt what’s happening. Instead, I’ll blend in, pay attention and capture the laughter, nerves, hugs and brilliantly unpredictable moments as they naturally unfold.

Of course, we’ll still make time for family photographs and some beautiful portraits of the two of you. I’ll offer enough direction to help you feel comfortable, but nothing will feel stiff, heavily posed or forced.

Your wedding should feel like a celebration, not a photoshoot. My job is to make sure you can enjoy it while I preserve everything that made it special.

We just wanted to say a huge thank you for capturing our day so beautifully. We absolutely loved the video and gallery, it was so special watching it together for the first time and reliving everything. You really captured the atmosphere, the little moments, and all our friends and family perfectly. We're so grateful for all your hard work and couldn't be happier with the photos.

Wedding Photography in the Heart of Derby

Derby has an incredible variety of places to get married. You’ll find historic buildings, converted industrial spaces, intimate city-centre venues and beautiful countryside just a short journey away.

That variety makes every Derby wedding feel different. One weekend I might be photographing a relaxed celebration beside the River Derwent; the next, I could be capturing a lively city wedding or heading into the Derbyshire countryside.

Wherever you choose to celebrate, I’ll focus on the atmosphere and the people who make the day yours.

Local Knowledge That Makes Things Easier

Being based in Derby means I’m familiar with the area and many of its best-known wedding locations.

Venues such as The West Mill and The River Mill offer character, brilliant light and plenty of opportunities for photographs without taking you away from your guests for ages. Knowing how these spaces work helps me find the best light, useful indoor options and quieter locations for portraits.

It also means less time travelling and more time capturing what’s happening.

Natural Photographs With no Awkwardness

Most of the couples I work with tell me they don’t feel comfortable in front of a camera.

That’s completely normal.

You won’t be expected to know how to pose or what to do with your hands. For most of the day, you can simply forget about the camera and concentrate on enjoying yourself.

When we take a few couple portraits, I’ll give you relaxed guidance where it helps. We’ll keep things moving, have a laugh and create photographs that still feel like you. No uncomfortable poses and no disappearing from your wedding for hours.

What to Expect From Your Derby Wedding Photographs

Your final gallery will tell the complete story of your wedding, not just the obvious highlights.

That means the excitement while you’re getting ready, the reactions during the ceremony, the hugs immediately afterwards and all the little interactions happening around you. It also means the chaos of the dance floor, the questionable moves and the moments you might not have noticed at the time.

Alongside those candid photographs, I’ll capture the important family groups, details of the venue and relaxed portraits of the two of you.

The result is a collection of photographs that shows what your wedding looked like—but, more importantly, reminds you how it felt.

Why Choose Me for as you Derby Wedding Photographer?

I’ve spent more than a decade behind the camera, developing an unobtrusive approach that helps people feel comfortable.

I know when to step in and offer guidance, but I also know when to stay quiet and let a moment happen. That balance allows you to enjoy your wedding without feeling as though you’re constantly being directed.

Being based locally also means I’m never far away. We can talk through your venue, timeline and photography plans before the wedding, so everything feels straightforward when the day arrives.

If you value genuine moments, natural portraits and photographs filled with personality, I’d love to hear what you’re planning.

Planning a Wedding in Derby?

Whether you’re organising a full-day celebration, a smaller city wedding or something completely unconventional, I’ll photograph it with the same care and attention.

Tell me your date, venue and what you have planned, and we can arrange a relaxed conversation to see whether I’m the right photographer for you.
